Now here’s something REALLY different!

Years back, Scott took an order for a bass even shorter than 31” scale. Before making it, he figured he’d see if all the tricks and experience with making big sounding short scales would work on a SUPER short scale to make it behave and have gig-worthy tone. There was a 25.5” scale Birdsong GUITAR model at the time, so for an extreme test, he built one of those but with a bass bridge & tuners (and a few other tweaks). This made a guitar-scale “Pocket bass” like from the ‘60s… they were hideous, but THIS one FAR exceeded all expectations! What a little beastie, and SO fun to play. It became the Sparrow model, and Scott had his next area of development.

Years and a few models later, the Amigo is the latest revision of our little side line of super-short GUITAR scale basses. The mock-up is shown, building to begin in Spring of 2025. Birdsong fans will notice the body is the much-loved old “Scott’s Shortbass”! The Amigo is a little different than the 31” short scales we’re known for, and just unbelievable for its size. Also different is that this model is built by founder Scott in his workshop in rural north New York! And to top it off, he hand woodburns a special Birdsong logo into the headstock like he did on the early Birdsongs.

It’ll travel easy and fill the room!

One of the coolest features on the Amigo is the use of “Double String Through” on the E string to help its behavior and tone on such a short scale. Scott adapted this from its use on the low B of our main-line 31” scale 5 strings, and was granted a US patent on the concept back in 2008.
