This week's extra posts!

Tuesday - Hope you're having a great evening, here's a peek into the workshop. This is a Birdsong 5-string bass (H095 on the BUILDS page if you’d like to follow along) taking the steps from marked slabs to a rough body blank of spalted local Texas pecan on mahogany with a strip of rosewood up the middle. First step after planing the boards flat, marking, and cutting the pieces is to glue the face & back halves of the body sides together. This is done in a custom made press that a guitar company from the '90s had specially made. It came to me several years ago, weighs a couple of hundred pounds, and I'm sure will serve in other generations' workshops to come. There are many ways to to this, but this is how it's done here; both halves paired, wax paper between and under, cranked down shoulder tight. It's a very special piece of equipment to me, knowing where and who it came from. Next shop day the pieces come out, get trimmed, and get joined together with the rosewood stringer to become one body blank. This is a great time to be creative - whether your song is words and music, either, paints, wood, self betterment… whatever your creative (or re-creative) project, help the process - do it. Do what’s next. Sing your song. ~S.

THURSDAY: When anything is shipped to you from our workshop, it is sent with our love and respect and gratitude. Just to be safe that it didn't pick anything else up along the way, please wash your hands after getting the box and let it sit around for a few days. Better safe than sorry in these strange days, OK? We only want our stuff to bring you inspiration. ~S.
