A quick update from the little workshops in the woods of the deepest deep south, out in the Hill Country of south central Texas. It was a busy week, so a little less prep on writing the Friday blog got done than I like, but a lot of other stuff got done I was hoping to see – so that’s a fair trade for this week. You know, a hope is like that… not a whole hell of a lot more than a shell of a dream unless you add its steps onto a list and start getting them done ‘n crossing them off. That’s what makes it real. That’s what makes it happen, whatever it is. More often than not, YOU are the magic ingredient you’re missing and looking for – no secret, no miracle bit of knowledge, no big lucky break or bestowment of greater hands. It’s you. If any of that other stuff comes into play, when it DOES it showed up because it knew where to find you in the first place – because you set out for your Moby Dick in a rowboat with a Swiss Army knife and a jar of tartar sauce, and the universe LOVES that.
Here are a handful of things that happened this week: Two SD Curlee Yankee IIs and a Shortbass GT flew the nest; two bass bodies of nice sunset-looking hemlock were glued up, a Birdsong C5 5 string and a Shortbass; approx. 5 lists were mostly checked off with various raw wood, working, finishing, assembly, communication and biz tasks; and today I snuck out for some wood shopping! More on all of this in the days to come. What’s coming NOW is I think something maybe, I dunno, ROUND made of dough and tomato sauce and cheese.
(Here’s a shot from the mill I visited this afternoon… it’s most likely pecan.)
Next week we’ll be diving into a few very special builds in their early stages so you can follow along – a D’Aquila electric jazz guitar I’ve been wanting to get back on for Al over on the east coast; a Birdsong Fusion bass we’ll call “L” – a memorial build for a beloved wife that will be quite a ceremony; and some basses of (surprise) local Texas pecan. And there’ll be a really cool bit of writing right here about “New music.”
Ta ta for now, happy weekend eve – and have a good one!
