Throwback Thursday: Summer of 2017 with the wildest Birdsong bass ever.
This is the only doubleneck we've done, and it was quite a build! It was on my "build bucket list" to make one happen, and a challenge from a client to create the wildest thing I'd ever done. Sometimes you need those pushes - not just to start and drive you, but once you're way in down the path too. Artists and craftspeople need to run it through the gears and see what it'll do every now and then; what can happen "all in"; what all those hours and honed skills can add up to now. That was the challenge at that time, and this was the result. Rock on and have a great weekend - giving my eyes some screen rest for a few days. ~Scott

WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY, 10-5-22:
Happy hump day, people! "What's UP, Wednesday?" A late in the day mid-week sneak peek into the little green workshop in the woods... among other things today, the body of a lined fretless Birdsong short scale 5-string got glued up! Figured Texas "escarpment" cherry & walnut. No big clamping machines here - little red Bessies for alignment, long orange Jorgensens for the pressure. My hand loves the feel of these clamps tightening, knowing this is the moment where "pieces of tree" become "basses to be."

Thought for Monday: I look at the grain in a piece of wood and am reminded that beauty exists within so much. Some gets seen, but most simply is there beneath the surface and does not need our involvement or approval to be so. Live as if you know it is there.
