What’s this - a Monday “Friday Update”? YES! And I’ll get back to Fridays for the next one, week after next. Meanwhile, here’s what’s going on in all the magic spaces!
In a little workshop way out in the Texas hills, Birdsong Head Luthier Jake is just finishing up a beautiful lefty wild walnut (with turquoise fill) fretless Fusion bass! We’re working on working this popular model back into the line; all things in their time. They won’t all be as wild as this one, but they can be! There’s a lot of small woodcraft that goes into a Fusion not to overlook - the pickup cover, a few different available plates, the trim pieces… all cut and shaped and sculpted from wood. And a Fusion SOUNDS about like it looks - a wood lover’s bass guitar. Also being worked on is a special bass for the 20th ANNIVERSARY coming up in the beginning of July, but we’re not showing pictures of that one yet – trust me, it’s going to be beautiful. All of these - and yours to come - entirely hand crafted in Seguin, Texas, just a romp through the hills from where it all began in Wimberley. This is another “golden age” for our big sounding little short scales.
Now, in both seconds of his spare time, Jake is working on some of his own Goede Guitars builds (say “GO-dee”). He has some in inventory, ready to complete – guitars and basses. Check them out at www.goedeguitars.com. I was talking to a client the other day about his stuff, there’s lots of temptation in the Birdsong extended circle with Jake returning last year – well believe it, there’s temptation IN the circle as well. I KNOW what his guitars play and sound like. I’ve been around them for 16 years! I KNOW what his level of craft is – I mean he’s crafting the continuing legacy of Birdsong’s finest. The guy MAKES a guitar. I’m telling you. I build my own and I’ve owned more of Jake’s than my own! So don’t be afraid to grab one while he’s building your Birdsong bass – or with one, for that matter. He is truly the best builder I know. Also, Birdsongs are short scale… if you want a bass “in the family” but full scale, or set neck, etc.? Get with Jake. He can make it happen as a Goede. And you’re Goede be VERY impressed! (Thank you, thank you very much.) Go ahead and order one from him - and if you want a package deal, ring me up and I’ll work that out for you!
Me? Scott B.? Captain of the ship? Woodgnome? Well, in a sunshiney little shop where I’m spending some time (and answering all your Birdsong calls and emails from), I’m working on a couple of Sport mini-basses, a “Style B” mini-bass, and a D’AQUILA “Florentine” guitar! These and managing Birdsong will keep me as busy as I want to be personally at this point, after the past decades in the workshops. Jake? Jake rocks. Me? I rock some but these days I roll too.
